Kate Spade's 'Lori' heels are my go-to going out shoes. I prefer nude heels to black heels when going out, just because they make your legs look longer. Also, they match everything--they are the perfect shade of beige! The patent leather is very high quality and they have this playful sophistication to them that really adds to any outfit. The hidden platform is so flattering and classy. Simply put, this is a beautiful shoe and is definitely on my 'essentials' list.

I have worn these countless times the past year and a half. The best part about these is how unexpectedly comfortable they are. I wore them in Beijing one night starting around 5PM. Walked to dinner, attended a party that required you to stand the whole time, and walked to early morning munchies spot. Got back home at 7AM and there was zero pain in my feet. I have never had a pair of heels where I could get away with standing/walking 12 + hours with absolutely no discomfort whatsoever. Keep in mind these are 4 inch heels! 

I would prefer the toe to be slightly more almond shaped, but the round toe doesn't take away from my love for this shoe. Kate Spade heels run TTS (their flats you should order 1/2 size up). I am a true 7.5 and that is what I took in these. They're a great price for the quality and comfort ($328), and I guarantee you will wear them much more often than any pair of Louboutins.

 Helmut Lang Sonar Wool Drape Dress

 The one thing I don't like about this dress is that the cut of the sleeves enhances my not so skinny arms.  However, I love the cozy material and the strategic draping. This dress is not an "essential" for me, but it's a great work appropriate dress for the Fall and Winter.

Oof, this photo came out dark. If you highlight it, you can see the flattering asymmetrical draping that so many of Helmut Lang's pieces are known for.

Essentials: Helmut Lang Villous Jacket

If you see me at school, 8 times out of 10 I will be wearing this jacket. I like wearing it as top with no shirt underneath because I'm incredibly lazy (I like to think of it as effortless chic). I wore it 5 days in a row last week and would have continued wearing it if I hadn't gotten broccoli cheddar soup on it. It's luxe, casual, edgy, versatile, and most importantly, comfortable! Think of it as a grown-up sweatshirt. Great to wear when traveling too...although I had a minor fiasco when TSA told me to take off my jacket and I had to explain there was nothing underneath.

Helmut Lang sizing is very inconsistent. Their tops have very slim, tight sleeves. I own everything in between a XS, S, and M in their pieces.

I'm working on an ultimate sizing guide for various brands that I hope will make shopping easier for all. For reference, I am 5'3, 120 pounds, dress size 2, pant size 26. When something is sized in XS, S, M, L, it gets a little tricky for me. I normally look at reviews, as well as what size the model is wearing to determine if I should order a XS or S. 

Here is my rule when it comes to Helmut Lang: if it's a loose flowy top such as the 'Render', I take an XS and there's still a good amount of room. It's safe to size down. If it's a top or dress that is fitted (especially if it has fitted sleeves) such as the 'Nexa' or the 'Sonar Wool Dress' I take the S. This is the size I took in the 'Villous'. When I purchased the 'Kinetic', I wanted that loose drapey T-shirt look, so I sized up to a M. 

If you have a store that carries Helmut Lang near you, you should definitely try on their pieces to determine what kind of fit you want. If you are ordering online, I am pretty confident that you shouldn't have a problem if you follow my advice above. I love love love Helmut Lang and their pieces are absolutely classic.

Missed Chance: Helmut Lang Top

Not really a missed chance, it's just that I can't justify paying $335 for a top when the same exact one (except no leather trim) is on sale online for $167.50. Not to mention, I much prefer the version without the leather. As with most sale items I love, I cannot find my size anywhere! The blouse is made from a wool crepe material and it drapes beautifully. I'm normally a size S in Helmut Lang, but I found that size P fit better. If you are in between sizes, you should size down for this style.

Helmut Lang 'Morse Drape Front' Top

Does anyone know of any good brands that carry a white somewhat low-cut drape front top? I've been searching for one for a while, and I love the one worn by this unknown person below.
